After I read my little niece Rocky’s letter, I was inspired to share my story with you…

Last week, while I was knitting a scarf for Bull, I had an interesting visit. I heard a soft knock at the front door, and when I opened, it was the forest fairy. I invited her inside and poured us some English tea. Then she told me, “The fairy counsel has decided to give you a gift because of all the good deeds you have done for the animal society. The gift is this: you have to choose anything in this whole wide world that you want to give to five other animals of your choice.”

After the tea, she left and said that she would return the following day.

I let the possibilities linger in my thoughts. I must admit, it was a lot harder than I thought it would be. I felt overwhelmed by all the possibilities. When the clock hit 3pm, I still didn’t have a clue what gift to choose.

So I decided to take a walk outside.

As I passed the local park, I saw little animals playing and laughing, having a jolly good time. I thought maybe I should choose the gift of family – to be cherished and loved by a family. Nothing beats that unique there-is-no-place-like-home feeling one can only experience when surrounded by loved ones. Every animal wants to be loved unconditionally, and a lot of times, it’s that love that carries us through the hardships and struggles of life. That feeling of knowing that you always have a family to return to.

As I passed the corner, I saw a little kitten with her mother and Paw, the local doctor, coming out of the hospital. Her left arm was in a sling. “That’s it,” I thought, “I should choose the gift of education”. If all of these animals can be educated, they can build strong careers. We all desire financial security. If I choose that gift, they will be able to provide for their families and give to the needy.

The sun started to set and I began to walk back home. I was somewhat depressed, because I thought that I would have made up my mind by now. It is not easy carrying the future of another animal in one’s hands.

Music filled my ears. I heard that it came from the city hall. It was a concert, and I decided to attend. It was a musical filled with some of the most famous feline singers. I really enjoyed the concert. Finally, I had found the perfect gift: fame.

I took the taxi home.

That night, I couldn’t sleep because I realized I still wasn’t sure! All the gifts felt so imperfect. Each one had good and bad aspects. What if it wasn’t what the animals wanted, I constantly asked myself.

As the sun rose the next morning, it hit me. It was like one of the rays shone its light on my problem. I realized that I had been so selfish this whole time. That was my problem!

This dream wasn’t about me. It was about the animals…

When the fairy arrived later that morning to ask me what I chose, I replied with a smile.

“I decided that the ultimate gift would be to make their biggest dreams come true!”

The fairy looked pleased.

Dear readers, I want to leave you with the following question. Have you ever helped to make someone else’s dream come true?
